WEST COAST/CANADA TO MEXICO BIKE RIDE

3 COUNTRIES, 1 GOAL~ PUTTING AN END TO ALS!

Here's a picture, the night before our journey begins.  I'm letting Pat figure out to pack it all in! :)

Welcome to The Roberts Family blog!  We've never used a blog before, so this is all new to us.  The reason why we created this blog is so that you can follow our bike ride journey from Canada to Mexico.  I know that not everyone is on Facebook, so if you'd like updates on our travels, or if you want more thorough details than what will be on Facebook, then this is the place for you!  I will try to post as much as I can, although we'll see how I'm feeling after riding 50 miles each day.  I might not be able to move at all! :)

We are riding our bikes from Canada to Mexico to raise money for ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease.  My dad,  Jerry Arnett, was diagnosed with ALS on January 20, 2009.  I'll never forget that day in which our world was shattered when we received the news of his diagnosis.  From that day on, we've been doing everything we can to raise money for ALS awareness, research, services and care, and ultimately a cure.  We've participated in two ALS bike rides and one ALS walk, in which we raised over $9,000.  However, we have not done an event to this extent before!

Our journey begins on January 29, 2012.  We'll be starting at the Canadian border and finishing at the Mexican border.  It's about 1,700 miles and we estimate that it will take about a month to finish.  We would like to do about 50 miles each day.  We plan on camping along the way, unless it is pouring; in that case, we will get a hotel (we are hoping to avoid the rain, but we are definitely not counting on it)!

So far, we have raised close to $3,900 and will continue to raise money as we pedal to our final destination.  I have included a link of our bike ride site if you'd like to see how you can help us in our fight against ALS.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, support, and well-wishes for our ride, my dad, and putting an end to ALS!
